Paul Dixon will never forget the horrible feeling he had when the final whistle sounded at Dens Park.
That was the moment the reality of relegation sunk in for the Dundee United defender.
Dixon has since been told that, despite being under contract, he is free to leave if he can find another club.
Despite that, the full-back joined this teammates in showing character to beat Inverness Caley Thistle 3-2 on Friday and he will continue to do his duty tonight when United host Partick Thistle.
Dixon said: “It was a tough week not knowing exactly what’s going to happen but we are professionals and we need to keep doing our job.
“That’s what we did at Inverness.
“Growing up a United fan, it’s a horrible feeling to be part of the team that got relegated.
“That is something that will live with me for the rest of my life.
“But this is professional sport and I have to do what is best for me and my family.
“That’s what I need to think about for the rest of my career – security for my family.
“I just need to take it as it comes.
“I don’t know what my future holds – it’s hard to say.
“That matter is in my agent’s hands.
“He is communicating with the club and, if I am picked to play, that’s what I will do.
“My remit is to play football.
“If my agent finds me a club, then I will go.
“If not, I will be here for pre-season.”
