Dundee United boss Ray McKinnon insists he will not be rushed into putting his squad together for next season’s promotion push.
The 45-year-old is barely a week into what is a huge job following the club’s relegation from the Premiership and he is under no illusions just how tough an undertaking it will be.
As well as identifying new potential targets for the upcoming campaign in the Championship, the Tangerines manager also has the tricky task of deciding who to keep and who to attempt to ease out the Tannadice exit door from those who still have time left on their deals with the club.
Players would be entitled to stay and see out their contracts even if McKinnon deemed them surplus to requirements and the delicate situation may take time to untangle.
McKinnon said: “We are working extremely hard behind the scenes trying to identify players we want to bring in.
“We are just seeing who is available but they must be able to bring value to the squad.
“We have been bombarded with players by agents but we are absolutely determined not to rush into anything.
“It might take four to six weeks before we start bringing players in – there will be no rush.
“We will take the correct amount of time to make our decisions and we know we have to get it absolutely right.
“We are also still in the process of trying to move players out but that is taking time as well.”
