Dundee United have withdrawn the offer of a further one-year contract option to goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima.
Reports that the Japanese international, who made 19 appearances for United after joining in early January, might be staying on at Tannadice have surfaced in the media back in his homeland.
That has led to confusion due to Kawashima’s name being left off the list of players the club said they wanted to keep going into their Championship campaign.
Kawashima was quoted, via translation, as saying: “My contract was for the season plus a one-year option so now the club and I will talk.”
However, it is understood Kawashima has played his last game for the Tangerines, with a club source confirming that an option did exist but it has been since been withdrawn.
