Dundee United have confirmed the departure of Paul Paton, with St Johnstone expected to announce his arrival later today. A United statement read: “The club announces today that Paul Paton leaves Dundee United by mutual agreement. “Paul, who signed on 1 June 2013, started 90 times for the club and made five substitute appearances. “He played in the 2014 Scottish Cup Final as well as the 2015 League Cup Final scoring a total of six goals in his time at Tannadice. “A stalwart of the side, he led out the team as on-field captain in the final third of last season. A spokesperson for United added: “We would like to thank Paul for his outstanding service to the Club and wish him all the very best for his future.” Paton said: “I would like to thank the supporters and everybody at Tannadice for my time at the club. “There will always be a tangerine spot in my heart and I wish Dundee United every success in returning to the Scottish Premiership next season.” Paton has agreed a two-year deal with Saints and has passed his medical.
