Raith Rovers are looking for £100,000 from Dundee United for defender Lewis Toshney.
The Tangerines have bid twice for the former Dundee and Celtic man and twice they have been told no by the Kirkcaldy club.
Both offers for the 24-year-old, who can play at the back or in midfield, have stretched to five figures but it is believed Rovers would like six figures for the man who did so well for new United gaffer Ray McKinnon last season.
With money tight at Tannadice as they cut their cloth in preparation for life in the Championship, it is highly unlikely that the Tangerines would be willing to go as high as £100,000.
Toshney has another year on his current Rovers deal, having signed an extension last January.
That means he could speak to any interested parties in the new year and be able to leave Stark’s Park for nothing at the end of next season.
Meanwhile, United have signed Northern Ireland under-19 international goalkeeper Brett Long and extended the contract of midfielder Gavin Ritchie, with the pair on two-year deals.
