Dundee United’s decision to play hardball with Tope Obadeyi has paid off after the player performed a U-turn to sign for them.
The Tangerines had pulled the plug on their move for the former Kilmarnock wideman on Thursday night after a last-minute hitch cropped up over personal terms.
However, Obadeyi (26) had a change of heart and was at Tannadice today to agree a one-year deal.
Despite the late drama, Obadeyi said: “It was an easy decision to come here.
“I cannot wait to get started.
“United are a massive club and they have great fan base.
“The aim is to be pushing for promotion.
“This move is about playing football.
“I want a season of games behind me and at a club this size – it’s a great opportunity.
“I came up to see St Andrews and the manager told me of his plans and after that I was convinced I wanted to join United.”
United boss Ray McKinnon added: “I am delighted to get Tope.
“He is a strong, powerful and quick player.
“He scored 10 goals in the Premiership last year and he will bring a lot to our team.
“We will need big, physical players and he fits the bill.”
