Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson has put himself forward for election to the Scottish Professional Football League board just months after resigning in protest.
Thompson stepped down from the SPFL board towards the end of last season after the Tangerines were hit with a fine and docked points for listing ineligible players Ali Coote and Jamie Robson for their match against Inverness Caley Thistle on May 6.
At the time, a club statement highlighted his “shock and anger” at the extent of the league’s punishment.
Thompson will now battle it out with Eric Drysdale and Leeann Dempster – the chief executives of Raith Rovers and Hibs respectively – for one of the two board positions available to the Ladbrokes Championship.
The result of the vote of member clubs will be announced at the SPFL’s annual meeting on July 20.
In the Premiership, there are only three nominees for the three board positions: Celtic’s Peter Lawwell, Ann Budge of Hearts and Partick Thistle’s Ian Maxwell.
In League 1 and League 2, from which there will be one position, Brechin City’s Ken Ferguson is the sole nominee.
