Boss Robbie Neilson believes rotation can be key to Dundee United’s chances of promotion.
Last Saturday at Queen of the South saw Robbie make four changes from the side that had impressed in the Scottish Cup win over St Mirren a week earlier.
And while Paul McMullan taking over from Cammy Smith in attack was the only one not forced on the manager, he does plan to make full use of his player pool between now and May.
“We have a really good squad here and we can use that to our benefit,” said Robbie.
“Guys can’t play 45 games a season, 90 minutes every week and be at their best, so if you can rotate a bit it helps.
“You might have a guy who can do it for 60 minutes and others who come out for a game or two every once in a while.
“It means when they come in they are fresh and, if they’ve been out, they are ready when they come back and are needed.”
Tomorrow at Falkirk will see the selection options increased by the return of fit-again defender Mark Connolly and midfielder Calum Butcher, who has served the league portion of his ban for being sent off against the Buddies.
The Englishman will be available for tomorrow, as well as Tuesday’s league clash with Inverness Caley Thistle, but will have to sit out the cup meeting of the teams on Sunday week.
As well as their ability, Robbie is pleased to have two men back who influence the work of those around him.
“Connolly is a leader, one of the leaders we brought in last month and getting Butcher back as well from his suspension is a plus because he’s another leader.”
