Robbie Neilson has told new owner Mark Ogren he needs another striker to boost Dundee United’s promotion challenge in the Championship.
The Tangerines had Nicky Clark back from injury against Dunfermline at the weekend and the 27-year-old came off the bench to grab a vital winner that saw the gap at the top of the division closed to just three points.
However, with Craig Curran being allowed to head over the road to Dundee earlier this month, Robbie wants another out-and-out attacker added.
And he’s made that clear to American millionaire Ogren. He was at Tannadice on Saturday for the first time since buying the club last month and later in the evening he had a sit down with his manager to discuss signing plans for the remainder of the January transfer window.
“Curran left last week and we are needing a bit of cover in there and we will look to recruit in that area as well,” said Robbie.
“We’ll look to have Nicky Clark, Safranko and another to give us the cover we need for the rest of the season.”
Robbie has a number of possible targets in mind and one could still be Osman Sow, the Swedish striker who played under him at Hearts and MK Dons.
The 28-year-old is still with the English League Two outfit and came on for the final few minutes of their defeat at Bury on Saturday.
Since Robbie left there last year, however, he has only been a bit-part player for the Dons.
Looking at the weekend win, the manager was pleased to give his new boss a victory on his first visit as owner.
“The three points were very important for us in the league but, obviously, the new owner coming over as well, he can see what we need,” he said.
“It’s good that he could see the game, that we got the three points but also that he could see we still have a lot of work to do here.”
Meanwhile, Robbie was delighted to welcome Gordon Forrest as his new assistant.
The Scot joins up after six years in the MLS as a coach with Vancouver Whitecaps.
“I’m very pleased to get him in. I didn’t know Gordon previously, I’ve heard of him. It’s refreshing to get someone in who has different ideas – and he’s very experienced.”
