Robbie Neilson will love it if new owner Mark Ogren is in the stand at Tannadice on Saturday watching in person as Dundee United win for him.

Minnesota-based Ogren has still to confirm the timing of his first visit to his club but Robbie knows there is a chance it will be in time to see Saturday’s clash with Dunfermline.

And, if the multi-millionaire and his son, Scott, do show up then, the manager believes the most fitting way to welcome them would be with a home win.

“It’s good for anybody when you’re winning, whether the owners are there or not but it would be great for them to come over and get the result that we want, start pushing up the league and get the players we want,” he said.

“I’m hoping they will be over at some point this weekend, possibly.

“They’ve got a long-term strategy for the club but they understand short-term football is what everybody looks at.

“We need to look at both aspects of that and try to get the players who are not only going to take us out of the league but take us up the next league as well.”

To that end, Robbie is continuing to try to bring new faces in, including St Mirren attacker Cammy Smith. Until deals are concluded he is reluctant to discuss names.

“Cammy’s one that keeps getting put to us all the time. He’s a St Mirren player and I don’t like to talk about players when they’re part of a club.”

His former striker at Hearts and MK Dons, Osman Sow, has also been linked. He could be on the list of targets but, for the time being, the gaffer is playing that one down.

“As far as I’m aware he’s been injured and he’s not played a lot this season. He’s one who would bring quality but it’s not one we’ve been looking at.”
