Defensive duo set to make Dundee United return for Queens encounter

Defenders Paul Watson and Jamie Robson look to be on course to make the squad for Dundee United’s home clash with Queen of the South on Saturday.

Watson is back in training after recovering from the thigh knock that ruled him out of the clashes with Inverness and Dunfermline.

Robson, meanwhile, hasn’t started under new boss Robbie Neilson and missed out on a place on the bench last week because of an ankle problem.

The full-back, though, is expected to be back working with the rest of the squad from tomorrow and, as long as he suffers no reaction, he will be available this weekend.

That would leave only long-term absentee Lewis Toshney on the injured list and there was even some good news on his latest setback when he turned an ankle in training last week.

“It’s not as bad as we thought and I’d expect him back, if not next week, the week after,” said Robbie.

While he’s delighted to be steering clear of injuries, Robbie knows they may strike at any time and wants to be ready if they do.

“You want everyone fit but very rarely does it happen.

“That’s why you want the guys who aren’t in the starting XI to continue to work hard. They have to be ready to come in when they’re required.”

Robbie also believes club captain Fraser Fyvie is getting close to full match fitness after his long absence until last month because of knee surgey.

“I think he still has a little bit to go and I think he will probably agree with that.

“When you’re out for nine months like he’s been then you can take six, eight games to get to it.

“He’s getting stronger with every game and he’ll be stronger this week.”
