When he took over from Csaba Laszlo at Dundee United, Robbie Neilson felt he was inheriting a good squad.
After just a week in charge the new gaffer is delighted to report he now knows that’s definitely the case.
Robbie was delighted with the players’ performance in his opening-game win at Partick Thistle on Saturday.
And he’s also been impressed with the work they’ve been putting in on the training pitch and their spirit.
He said: “The quality in the team is very good, particularly for this level.
“On Saturday we left a couple of first-team boys back at the stadium because the squad is so good.”
“And I can feel the spirit in the dressing-room, the togetherness. The key is they want to do well, every one of them wants to do well.”
Meanwhile, one of United’s main promotion rivals, Ross County, have been dealt a blow after it was confirmed the injury suffered by ex-Tangerine Michael Gardyne will keep him out until at least Christmas.
The Dundonian broke his foot in the opening 10 minutes of his return to Tannadice as the Staggies ran out 5-1 winners at the end of last month, in what proved to be Csaba’s last game in charge of the home side.
Gardyne was linked with both United and Dundee early in the summer, but instead opted for a new deal up in Dingwall.
But in Davis Keillor-Dunn, co-manager Stuart Kettlewell believes they have a ready-made replacement for the 32-year-old.
And he’s challenged the midfielder to prove that.
“Michael Gardyne was in such good form at the start of the season which probably left Davis a little frustrated,” he said.
“We know we have such an able replacement for ‘Midge’ and can see Davis going from strength to strength.
“He looks bright, bubbly and is enjoying his football.
“I cast my mind back to Dundee away last season and it was one of the best individual performances we’ve seen in the Premiership.
“That’s what we want from him now.”
