Dundee United are set to offer Robbie Neilson the chance to become their next manager.
Talks have been taking place with the former Hearts and MK Dons boss over the past few days and the Tele understands that’s left the Tangerines convinced he’s the man who can get them back to the Premiership.
If all goes to plan the 38-year-old will be in charge for this weekend’s Championship visit to Partick Thistle, who themselves are now in the hunt for a new boss after sacking Alan Archibald last night.
And if Neilson accepts the challenge of returning the Tangerines to their former glory, he can do so in the knowledge he’s the man the fans want to take charge of their team.
Last week he came top of a Tele poll asking Arabs who they wanted to replace Csaba Laszlo.
For Neilson it would be a return to work for the first time since he left MK Dons in January, but since then he’s been linked with a string of jobs and in the summer turned down the chance to manage top flight new comers St Mirren.
If he does become United gaffer it would be his second spell at Tannadice. As a player, he spent the 2011/12 campaign with United.
