Dundee United pair Fraser Fyvie and Billy King continued their comebacks from injury in the Reserve League Cup on Tuesday.
The two made their first appearances of the season in the Irn-Bru Cup defeat against Alloa at the weekend.
After coming on late on against the Wasps, this time club captain Fyvie and winger King were both given the full first half.
That puts them well down the road to a first-team return, though it would be a major surprise if either were to feature in Saturday’s Championship clash with Morton at Tannadice.
After being out since Christmas, Fyvie, in particular, is likely to continue his build-up in the reserves for another couple of weeks.
The plan for him is to have him back only once he’s completed a full game for the second string.
Their presence saw them help the Tangerines to a 2-1 win over Saints, though both United goals came late in the second period.
Matty Smith, with his second goal in two games, levelled after Saints had gone ahead through Jordan Northcott.
United then sealed the points from the opening group game when Louis Appere struck 18 minutes from the end.
United, meanwhile, have switched their crucial Championship clash at Partick Thistle next month.
The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 30, but with both teams’ interest in this season’s Irn-Bru at an end, they’ve brought it forward to Saturday, October 13, with a 3pm kick-off.
As well as suiting fans, it means both teams will avoid a three-game week at the end of the month.
Had United progressed in the Irn-Bru they would have faced Dunfermline in the third round.
