Goalkeeper Matej Rakovan has been warned more mistakes like the one that gifted Partick Thistle a late goal at the weekend could cost him the first-team jersey at Dundee United.
That’s despite gaffer Csaba Laszlo stressing he believes the Slovakian has impressed in his five appearances so far.
The 28-year-old had turned in a commanding display against the Jags until he fumbled an injury-time cross to let Chris Erskine grab what was only a consolation in United’s 3-1 win.
Despite it not affecting the result, with Benjamin Siegrist pushing Rakovan hard, Csaba has pointed out such errors could prove costly.
“I was angry that in the last moment we lost this stupid goal, I have to say this” he said.
“And in this position we have two really good goalkeepers and the pressure is there for both.
“If you make a mistake, you cannot be sure nothing will happen. Matej had a good game, but I want concentration until the last minute.
“For this reason I tell you we have behind him Benjamin Siegrist who is really hot at the moment, really good.”
Csaba stressed he wasn’t being harsh, just fair to both his goalies. He was pleased that Rakovan was first to admit to the mistake, while his Swiss rival was quick to defend him.
“I have to tell you something to show the team spirit we have. Matej came in the dressing-room and said he made a mistake and I told him my opinion, but who was the first to defend him? It was Benjamin.
“He was the first to say it was OK and it shows although he knows he is the competitor, he defended his own colleague.”
