Csaba Laszlo believes his new Dundee United players now know they have the best fans in the Championship – if they give them something to shout about.

Dundee United boss Csaba Laszlo appreciates the backing he receives from fans and understands their frustration when things aren’t going well

Having been booed after earlier poor results at home, Saturday saw the Tangerines given a standing ovation at the end of their 3-1 win over Partick Thistle.

And Csaba feels that’s sent a clear message to his team.

“We have had a lot of criticism until now but the team needed a little time because we changed a lot of players, with 19 out and 15 new coming in,” he said.

“There was a lot of disappointment in the summer and against Dunfermline in the first league game we were OK first half, but not in the second.

“Queen of the South was OK and I think this performance, we looked like a team and I am pleased with this.

“The players who come in now feel the Dundee United fans are very critical but on the other side are very thankful if you fight for them, fight for the club and show commitment.

“Do that and they are really thankful. Of course, it is not so you can win every game but if you play like we did on Saturday, with this will and commitment to the club, the fans will show they are happy.

“It must always be the same as it was against Partick Thistle and now we have to develop this.”

Csaba’s also of the opinion his players are now beginning to reap the benefits of the graft they’ve been doing since pre-season kicked off near the end of June.

“We have worked hard on set-pieces and also in the counter-attack. It’s clear, too, we have some fast players, attacking players like Craig Curran, Pavol Safranko and Yannick Loemba, who are direct.

“This can give us chances in the front.

“In the future I want a little bit more movement without the ball than we had in the game against Partick.

“If you don’t have that movement you can make the game more difficult but if you have players like Curran and Safranko up front you can create problems for the opponents.”

Winger Billy King is back in training

Meanwhile, winger Billy King has stepped up his training after being out since the start of pre-season with a thigh problem.

It’s likely to be a few more week before he returns.
