Dundee United boss Csaba Laszlo believes his team can head for Alloa in confident mood after making it two league wins in a row with an impressive 3-1 success over Partick Thistle.
The victory leaves the Tangerines just a point off the top of the Championship.
“I think this was a very intensive game from both sides. Partick Thistle are just relegated and have a lot of good players who have Premier League experience.
“I think it was a game we deserved to win. If I reflect back on the game, they did not have many chances in front of our goal.
“The boys controlled the game very well and I think we missed just one chance, when Craig Curran missed one big chance.”
Midfielder Sam Stanton, meanwhile, is likely to have surgery to repair a hernia and be out for the next month.
He’s been bothered by the problem for a couple of weeks or so but the 24-year-old was willing to play against the Jags.
Manager Csaba Laszlo, though, has decided he wants it cured as soon as possible and that’s likely to mean surgery.
“The biggest punch for us is the news of Sam Stanton. He is fighting just now with a hernia,” said Csaba.
“After the game at Queen of the South he told me that even if he is coughing he has a pain.
“We have told him he doesn’t have to play with the pain.
“Maybe he will be out for four weeks but we have to fix this problem very quickly.
“I think maybe an operation will be the best solution. I am not a doctor or a physio so I cannot say definitely but I do want him sorted.
“To have him play with the pain is not the best solution.”
Striker Nicky Clark also sat out Saturday’s win because of injury but the marksman is expected to be available for this weekend’s trip to Alloa.
“We missed Nicky Clark because at Queen of the South he worked very well.
“He is always dangerous and he can score goals. He had a problem with his Achilles.
“This was from the artificial pitch at Queen of the South in the previous game.
“He trained last week but he told me he had pain.
“I think in two or three days it will settle down and I hope he will be over it.”
Tomorrow sees the second string back in action when they host Kilmarnock in the Reserve League.
