Csaba Laszlo will have a look a player with a strong football pedigree as he tries to add to his attacking options at Dundee United.
Today will see Austria Vienna reserve striker Toni Vastic arrive for a trial with the Tangerines.
Now 25, Vastic spent time with both Blackburn Rovers and Bayern Munich’s second team in his younger days and also has experience of top flight football in his native Austria.
And his father Ivica, though born in Croatia, won 50 caps for Austria between 1996 and 2008 as well as starring for the likes of Strum Graz and Austria Vienna, for whom he is now a youth coach.
Csaba did not confirm Vastic is the player he was bringing over but did concede it was a striker from Vienna who is strong in the air and there is no doubt Vastic is that man.
It was through the manager’s contacts in central Europe that the deal to bring him over for a tryout was done.
“We are working to bring players in. I don’t make any secret that we are bringing someone in from Austria Vienna, a big striker, I can have a look at,” said Csaba.
“We are talking with one other player and hope the signings can be made, the deals are done.
“I hope by next week we will have a complete team.”
United also hope to be boosted by the sight of another new striker, Craig Curran, making his debut when they complete their Betfred Cup campaign at Elgin City this Saturday.
Curran was due back in training today after the dead leg that’s sidelined him for the past two weeks.
If he completes his work over the next couple of days without suffering a reaction, he will be on duty up north and back on course to be ready for the league kick-off against Dunfermline next week.
“We have been working on Craig and, if he is OK, he can get 45 minutes against Elgin and that would be good news.”
Defender Callum Booth is another who has been in the wars but could be back on duty at the weekend.
The former Partick Thistle man picked up a knock at Ross County last week and missed out against Alloa but could be ready over the next couple of days.
