Edjenguele sits out as strong Dundee United team beaten by Raith Rovers in friendly

Dundee United’s pre-season build up continued at the weekend when a strong side went down to Raith Rovers in a friendly.

The game was played behind closed doors at the Tangerines’ St Andrews training base.

Most of the players who won 2-0 in the opening friendly at Brechin last week were given another run.

Among the few to miss out were James Keatings, Lewis Toshney and William Edjenguele.

Keatings and Toshney are both building up their fitness after long- term injuries.

Edjenguele’s omission could be a sign he is one of the players United would allow to move on if another club came in for him.

The centre-half made only a brief appearance as a sub at Brechin and, with the arrival of Frederic Frans, has dropped well down the pecking order.

Despite creating a number of chances in Saturday’s game, United lost out to a goal early in the second half.

Manager Csaba Laszlo had been keen to add a third game this midweek and, if possible, have it open to the public in order to give fans another opportunity to see the long list of summer signings in action.

So far there has been no confirmation of the game and it could be the preparations for Saturday’s home Betfred Cup clash against Arbroath are completed with another closed door game.

Meanwhile, Csaba is continuing his attempts to add even more new faces to his squad.

He remains hopeful of making as many as a further four signings before the end of the week.

Away from the first team, Craig Easton’s reserves picked up the first trophy of the season when they came out on top in the D & K Lafferty Cup in Oban at the weekend.

The young Tangerines beat Hamilton, St Johnstone and St Anthony’s as well as drawing with Oban and that was enough for them to take the silverware.

Tickets for the Betfred Cup trip to face Ross County at the Global Energy stadium tomorrow week are still available.
