A goal in each half was enough to give new-look Dundee United victory in their friendly at Brechin City.
United, boasting eight of their nine summer signings, got of to the perfect start when one of them, Fraser Aird, netted with a fine solo effort in only the eighth minute.
They soon had the chance to make it two when Sam Stanton was fouled right on the edge of the home area. Callum Booth struck the free kick low and Conor Brenan in the City goal saved well.
United were stroking the ball around nicely and looked well in control, but there was a scare on 27 minutes when Sean Burns tried his luck from 30 yards and his shot flew just wide of Benjamin Siegrist’s right post.
There was another near thing when Dougie Hill headed over from a corner, but United were well worth their lead at the interval.
Early in the second half United went close went substitute Paul McMullan sent a shot into the side netting.
To be fair to them, Brechin were making a game of it and for a friendly the game was being played at a high tempo.
That said, as both sides made a string of changes during the second period the fluency of the play was affected.
With ten minutes left United did make it two when a James Keatings shot came back off the bar and struck home defender Euan Spark before trickling over the line.
Keatings was then unlucky not to get a goal himself when he struck the post with a curling shot from 16 yards.
