In-form Dundee United pair facing fitness checks ahead of Queens trip

In-form Dundee United pair Willo Flood and Paul McMullan are facing fitness checks for Saturday’s trip to Queen of the South.

The pair both took knocks in Tuesday night’s 5-0 win over Brechin at Glebe Park.

Winger McMullan hurt his groin in the first half but was able to last until 12 minutes before the end when he was replaced by Scott Fraser.

Flood came off four minutes earlier after he took a knock and manager Csaba Laszlo is hopeful both will be OK for Dumfries.

“With Willo it was more of a precaution that we took him off and I think McMullan can be OK as well because he was able to play on,” said Csaba.

“We shall look at them in our training and see how they are.”

With Fraser now considered fit enough for 90 minutes, Jordie Briels getting game time when he came on for Flood and striker Emil Lyng also back in full training, United will have options for the weekend.

And despite Tuesday night being their sixth midweek fixture in a row, Csaba is happy with the fitness levels of his squad.

“It has been hard but the players have coped and still look strong.”

Inverness Caley Thistle’s narrow win at Dumbarton last night means United still need two points from the final two games to be sure of their place in the play-offs.

If, though, Inverness drop any points in their final three games, United will have done enough already.

Saturday sees the Highlanders play host to promotion rivals Dunfermline before their hectic schedule continues at second-placed Livingston on Tuesday.

Their final game is at Morton, while United round off by facing Livi.
