Dundee United have appointed tangerine legend Paul Sturrock their new chief scout in England.
The appointment comes after discussions between “Luggy” and new Tannadice chairman Mike Martin.
Based in the south west of England, he will be responsible for identifying talent south of the border and report back to manager Csaba Laszlo.
The 61-year-old’s return represents a third spell at Tannadice for the man who won the league with United back in 1983.
Speaking to the club website, Luggy said: “I am delighted to be back working for my club.
“I met with chairman Mike Martin and manager Csaba László earlier this week and I felt that we all shared the same belief on the best way forward for Dundee United.
“I look forward to working hard and using my knowledge of the English game to bring talent to the club.”
As a player he scored 170 goals in 571 appearances before stepping into a coaching role under Jim McLean.
He then had a two-year spell back at the club after returning as manager in 1998.
His managerial career after quitting Tannadice in August 2000 was spent at various English clubs including Southampton, Plymouth Argyle and Sheffield Wednesday over the years he’s built up an extensive knowledge of the game down there.
Chairman Mike Martin added: “Paul’s passion for the club is very evident and his knowledge of the lower leagues in England remains outstanding. Recruitment from England has to play a big part in our ability to produce talent right through the ranks.
“Seeing the instant connection between him and Csaba and after listening to Paul’s views in our meetings over the last few days, I do not doubt that this appointment will be productive for United and I am excited to welcome Paul back to Dundee United.”
