Dundee United face fixture pile-up

Dundee United face fixture pile-up

Dundee United are facing a fixture backlog after Saturday’s trip to Inverness was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

It now leaves the Tangerines with three outstanding fixtures to be fitted into their league programme.

Csaba Laszlo’s men have still to return to Dumfries to face Queen of the South after their trip in December was abandoned at half-time because of a frozen pitch.

And the home clash with Dumbarton on Saturday week has been called off because the Sons have an Irn-Bru Cup semi-final that day.

Now a midweek journey to the Highlands will have to be pencilled in.

So far, no dates for any of these fixtures have been arranged, but it looks likely to mean fixture conjestion.

United have already been handed a two-games in four days week when they face Queen of the South at Tannadice on Tuesday February 27 and then host St Mirren on the Friday,

It’s been confirmed, meanhwile, defender Lewis Toshney is out until next season.

Toshney underwent an operation last month to solve a long-running knee problem.

It’s ruled him out since he started the defeat against ICT in mid-October that turned out to be then gaffer Ray McKinnon’s last game in charge.

Now, the 25-year-old Dundonian has started his road to recovery but won’t play again this term.

He had been earmarked to play some part in between now and the end of the campaign.

United are already without Fraser Fyvie until next season because of a serious knee injury.

And although Scott Fraser is recovering from a broken foot, he’s some way away from a return.
