Dundee United boss Csaba Laszlo has praised his experienced players for the influence they’re having on his team during games.
Csaba knows the knowledge of “old heads” like Tam Scobbie and Scott McDonald will be vital to securing promotion.
And when it comes to leadership, he believes they have stepped up to the plate.
“I was very impressed with the team, how they handled the penalty against Livingston,” he said.
“I had the feeling when we missed the penalty, we would lose confidence, but especially the players who had experience, Scott McDonald, Tam Scobbie, Paul Quinn, they have handled this situation well.
“From these guys after the penalty, I hear them shouting ‘come on guys we just stay, do what we are doing’ and this is important when you have young players.”
Csaba has also singled out veteran striker Scott McDonald for doing a job for the team in spearheading the attack when his best position is probably in a slightly deeper role.
After midfield anchor man Fraser Fyvie was carried off with a damaged knee at the weekend, McDonald was pulled back slightly and, in an ideal world, his manager points out that would be where he always operates.
With Scott Fraser excelling in that role and no obvious targetman for up top, the Australian is likely to be back at the head of the attack at St Mirren on Friday.
“Scott had to come back behind the striker and he did well.
“This is his natural position, he is not a striker for the very front, but he plays there for the team.”
United are still waiting for news on Fyvie’s injury, though he will miss Friday.
