Csaba Laszlo’s big wish for the January transfer window is to add another top striker to his Dundee United squad.
But the Tangerines gaffer admits that could prove easier said than done.
If the right people are available Csaba will attempt to strengthen in several areas of his team, but he’s not hiding the fact that up top is his No 1 priority.
In revealing that, he has stressed he is happy with the contribution veteran Aussie attacker Scott McDonald has made.
He would, though, like to add more depth and tactical options to his front line.
“At the moment really we have a plan A and a plan B. We have to look at what is there and what is good for us,” he said.
“In January the transfer window is not easy to find the players you need. Players have contracts and maybe the best way to go is to look also for loan players.
“But I want players who can really help us and add quality, not just quantity. If I bring someone they have to have the quality to move Dundee United forward.”
While that insistence on getting better than he has already means a defender or midfielder could be added, Csaba’s first moves when the window opens in just under a fortnight will be for front men.
“At the moment we need goals and it is easy to say we need a striker.
“I tell you why, we need somebody different to Scott McDonald.
“Scott is really a big player, but if you have somebody different in this position, somebody who is tall and really strong in the air, you have more tactical possibilities.
“Then you have quality to play a second striker and if I just have one wish it would be in this position.”
Looking towards Saturday’s clash with Livingston at Tannadice, the gaffer confirmed skipper Willo Flood has recovered from a dislocated shoulder and could be involved.
That’s likely to be as one of the substitutes before the Irishman returns to the starting line-up in the top-of-the-table clash with St Mirren on Friday week.
“I spoke to the doctors and theoretically he is ready, but mentally you have to balance that out and he needs some contact in training sessions.
“From the medical side we don’t have anything wrong with him and it is fantastic to have him back.”
