Csaba Laszlo was officially named Dundee United manager yesterday and immediately set his sights on getting the club back to the Premiership.
The 53-year-old is famed for his long answers at press conferences but, as he took the reins at Tannadice, he saw no reason to mince words.
The former Hearts boss has signed a contract until May 2019 and by then aims to have the Tangerines back in the top flight.
“We can talk very long about how nice it is to be here in Scotland again and the grass is green and the birds are singing, but look, for us, it is very, very simple,” he told a lunch-time press conference at Tannadice.
“We have a target, it is the Scottish Premier League and that’s all.”
Having been linked with the job for the best part of a fortnight, Laszlo revealed he’s taken time to study the squad.
He believes it’s one that’s good enough to go up.
“Before I came to the interview, I watched around seven, eight games. I looked at what is possible to do with this team, how is the quality with this team.
“The quality is there, the players there are good enough. You saw in the last two games the team moved in the right direction and what I have to do is continue this road.”
Laszlo was introduced to the media by United chairman Stephen Thompson, and he revealed the club had done their homework before making this appointment.
“As a board, we’ve taken our time to ensure we’ve got the right candidate for the position of manager. We’ve a done lot of background research and Csaba was an outstanding candidate,” he said.
“After the interview with him we did a bit of homework and background checks with people who’ve worked with Csaba.
“We believe we’ve secured a fantastic coach, man manager and fantastic tactician who can help us achieve our goal.”
