Ray McKinnon’s position as Dundee United manager has been left in serious doubt after a second consecutive Championship defeat.
United went down 2-0 to Inverness Caley Thistle on a disappointing day at Tannadice, leaving the pre-season promotion favourites in fourth place, five points adrift of leaders St Mirren.
It was the third defeat in the opening ten games of the campaign and for the second week running – United lost 2-0 at Livingston a week ago – the team were booed off at the end by their own fans.
After the final whistle the Tannadice board met to discuss the situation and it’s understood there will be another meeting within the next 48 hours.
Following that it could be confirmed the axe will fall on the man who’s been in charge for the last 19 months or so.
Last season United only missed out on an immediate return to the Premiership when they lost by a single goal to Hamilton Accies in the promotion play-off final.
This time round the target was automatic promotion but the sluggish start to the campaign has already put that in doubt.
