SP Answer — The was no official openings. The lights were first used in the second half of the Dundee United v Rangers game on November 10, 1962.
United won 2-1 with goals from Walter Carlyle and Jim Irvine.

SP Answer — Bobby made his debut against Sheffield United in the in the Anglo-Scottish Cup quarter-final second leg.
Dundee were beaten 1-0 (MacPhail) at Dens Park on September 11, 1979. Dundee lost the tie on a 3-1 aggregate.
Bobby’s league debut was the first game of the following season when the Dark Blues lost 1-0 (Leonard) to Dunfermline at East End Park on August 9, 1990.

Was the official opening a competition between the Home Countries?
SP Answer — The course was officially opened on June 6, 1959, when Eric Brown and John Panton beat Davie Allan and Walter Lyle 5 and 4. Panton went around in 69.
The course was changed to its present layout and another opening tournament was played on July 16, 1961 — a £500 winner-takes-all competition.
England’s Harry Weetman (67, 71) and Peter Allis (71, 72) won with an aggregate of 281.
Scots Eric Brown (70, 76) and John Panton (72, 69) tied with Ireland’s Christy O’Connor (69, 69) and Norman Drew (72, 77).
Local professionals Bobby Walker and Fred Bullock shot a combined 301.
