It will be a new-look Dundee United when boss Ray McKinnon has another crack at promotion next season.
This week Ray is sitting down with his out-of-contract players but it’s looking increasingly likely most will not be offered new deals.
Among those about to become free agents are club captain Sean Dillon, Willo Flood, Paul Dixon, Blair Spittal, Charlie Telfer, Luis Zwick and Stewart Murdoch.
Of that number only Murdoch seems certain to be offered a deal for next term.
A month or two ago there were tentative talks with Dillon over a role that would see him coach as well as provide playing cover, but they were put on hold during the ultimately unsuccessful play-off campaign.
It’s not clear if, in the wake of the failure to get back to the Premiership, that deal remains on the table.
Likewise, the need to cut the budge further and also freshen up the squad for the next campaign could mean there are big-name casualties.
Who they are will unfold over the next few days.
What’s already clear is that Dutch defender Frank van der Struijk won’t be returning to Tannadice for next season.
He did feature after a poor performance in the defeat at Raith Rovers in mid-March.
And German keeper Luis Zwick is also set to move back to the continent.
He was made No 1 by then boss Jackie McNamara two summers ago but is now very much second fiddle to on-field skipper Cammy Bell.
Loan men Tony Andreu, Thomas Mikkelsen and Alex Nicholls have all now returned to their parent clubs.
