Strikers Edward Ofere and Mason Robertson are unlikely to be offered more than training facilities at Dundee United.
Former Tangerine Ofere and American college soccer star Robertson have both been working out with the squad at Tannadice after they contacted the club.
Having been happy to give them the chance to train, manager Ray McKinnon decided to take a look at the pair when Development League action restarted against Motherwell at Forfar yesterday.
Neither stood out as United went down 3-0 to the Steelmen so, while they may continue to train for the next few days, their stays will not be permanent.
Ray’s focus for this transfer window has been on other targets and work on those is continuing.
For the next 48 hours, though, his main concentration will be on Saturday’s clash with Dunfermline down at East End Park.
And, despite a the recent barren four-game run without a win, he remains upbeat about the chances of chalking up a fifth victory of the season over the Pars.
“Nobody was getting carried away when we had a 14-game unbeaten run before Christmas,” he said.
“Now we’ve had a couple of setbacks and that happens in football. We won’t get carried away by that either.
“Very rarely does anybody go through the season without obstacles and now we’ve had a couple and we have to deal with it.
“You just have to bounce back, that’s the nature of the game and you’ve got to have players who take that responsibility and make sure they react well.
“That’s something we have been talking to them about a lot this week and that’s what we’ve been focused on.”
United have no injury concerns for the weekend and Lewis Toshney’s broken toe will not prevent him being considered for selection.
Returning to yesterday’s Development League action, club captain Sean Dillon took the chance to get some game time under his belt.
He hasn’t had 90 minutes since the Hogmanay defeat at Dumbarton and did not feature at all in last weekend’s Scottish Cup loss at Ross County.
Dillon and trialist Ofere apart, it was a young United side that was fielded.
