Dundee United’s seven game winning streak ended in the rain at Greenock as they were held by promotion rivals Morton.
Both sides had chances in a hard fought 90 minutes and in the end a share of the spoils was just about right.
United started on the front foot and the first minute saw Charlie Telfer shoot just over from 20 yards.
They continued to press, but without troubling home ‘keeper Derek Gaston. And they had to be on their toes when Morton attacked through Ross Forbes, whose shot was well taken by Cammy Bell.
The Tangerines moved back into attack and a Blair Spittal cross from the left was just too high for Scott Fraser in front of goal.
The home team had settled and were doing their fair share of attacking, but when Andy Murdoch shot from distance Bell saved comfortably.
United still were not creating as many chances as they’d like and when they did, Simon Murray squandered a fine opening when he shot straight at Gaston after being set up by a Spittal pass.
At the other end the lively Jai Quitongo went close with an angled drive.
Shooting down the Cappielow slope, it was Morton who made the more positive start to the second period.
And Jamie Lindsay missed a great chance when he shot in Bell’s arms after finding room in the United penalty box.
The visitors were on the back foot now, but when they got forward only a superb Gaston stop denied Fraser the opener with a deflected shot.
Another decent United chance went begging when the normally deadly Tony Andreu shot tamely wide from the edge of the area.
Then a fine double save from Gaston denied Andreu and Fraser and you sensed a goal, at either end, was not going to come.
That was in part down to some fine goalkeeping in difficult conditions and late on Bell did well to take a skidding 20-yarder from Mark Russell, while opposite number Gaston made another good stop from a Telfer shot.
