Ray McKinnon is hoping today’s Irn-Bru Cup visit to Dunfermline will see Lewis Toshney confirm he’s ready to play his part in the looming league clashes with Morton and Hibs.
And midfield anchorman Stewart Murdoch is also on course to be involved in those crucial fixtures.
Toshney was the Tangerines star man in early season games but has been out since damaging ankle ligaments at Hibs on October 2.
He’ll be in the starting line-up at East End Park and if he comes through the 90 minutes will be in contention for a place at Morton a week later.
After a break, because they are not involved in the next round of the Scottish Cup, United then face Hibs under the Friday night lights at Tannadice on December 2.
“Tosher will play from the start tomorrow,” confirmed Ray.
“He got 70 minutes in the Development League game on Wednesday and has trained the past couple of days.
“He’s feeling good and what he needs now is games, so he’ll get one.”
Murdoch, another impressive performer since joining from Ross County in the summer, has been out since the League Cup defeat at Morton in September.
He’ll be on the bench tomorrow and, while that’s more of a reward for the hard work he’s put in to get back fit ahead of schedule, there’s a chance he’ll get on.
