Dundee United pair Willo Flood and Cammy Bell have been stepping up their training in a bid to make Saturday’s trip to St Mirren.
Flood has been out since last month’s defeat at Falkirk because of a thigh strain.
And Bell missed Saturday’s Irn-Bru Cup win at Stranraer after having surgery early last week on a minor groin strain.
Gaffer Ray McKinnon expected his goalie to miss out in Paisley but, after seeing him resume light training and do some goalkeeping work earlier in the week, is now not so sure.
“He’s got to be a doubt because he only had the operation a week or so ago but Cammy says he’s feeling good and will make it,” he said.
“We’ll see how it goes with him over the next couple of days and make a decision.”
Likewise, Flood was doing some training with the physio early in the week and was due to join in with the rest of the squad today.
If he’s come through that without any reaction and trains again tomorrow, he will return to the starting line-up against the Buddies.
Still out will be Lewis Toshney and Stewart Murdoch.
Full-back Toshney’s damaged ankle ligaments could keep him sidelined for another couple of weeks but he remains determined to get back quicker than the initial six-week absence medics predicted.
For former Ross County midfielder Murdoch, it will be a long haul back to fitness after tearing a knee ligament.
