The medics have ruled him out for six weeks but Dundee United’s Lewis Toshney has told gaffer Ray McKinnon — see you next week.
Toshney is one of four regulars who’ll miss today’s Irn-Bru Cup trip to Stranraer through injury.
But despite damaging ligaments on both sides of his ankle during the draw at Hibs on Sunday and needing an X-ray, he’s determined to keep his absence down to just that game.
“His ankle was badly swollen and the medical people have said he’ll need six weeks to get back,” said Ray.
“But by yesterday he was walking on it again and he’s telling me he’ll be ready for St Mirren next week!”
If Toshney does make it, it would be his third speedy recovery in just three months for a United game.
Already he’s come back earlier than expected from receiving a broken nose in pre-season and a twisted knee suffered down at Dumbarton in August.
This time, though, his manager doubts he’ll meet his own target.
“Hopefully, it will be less than six weeks but I can’t see him being ready for St Mirren.
“With him you never know and it says it all about his attitude.”
As well as Toshney, United will be without Willo Flood, Stewart Murdoch and Cammy Bell.
Flood should be ready for Paisley, while Bell’s groin surgery should rule him out for no more than three weeks. Murdoch is set to be out for longer.
