Midfield lynch-pins Willo Flood and Stewart Murdoch could be back in the Dundee United ranks for Saturday’s Irn-Bru Cup trip to Stranraer.
The pair have formed an impressive partnership in the heart of the United line-up but injuries have meant they’ve not been seen together since the 2-2 draw with Raith Rovers at the end of August.
A calf problem has meant Murdoch’s only appearance since then was in the 2-1 League Cup defeat at Morton a fortnight ago.
Flood, meanwhile, has missed the last three games because of the thigh strain that forced him off in the defeat at Falkirk last month.
Both, though, are now closing in on a return and could resume their partnership at Stair Park.
With Lewis Toshney, a stand-in midfielder in the last two games, facing several weeks on the sidelines with damaged ankle ligaments, their return would be a more-than-welcome boost to gaffer Ray McKinnon.
He already knows in-form goalkeeper Cammy Bell will be missing at the weekend and beyond because of the groin surgery he was having today.
That means young German Luis Zwick is likely to take up the goalkeeping duties at Stair Park.
And Charlie Telfer faces a fitness check after coming off the bench at Hibs on Sunday despite carrying an injury.
Tonight sees the kids in Development League action when they host Rangers at Tannadice.
