A dogged rearguard action saw Dundee United head home with a point from their clash with Hibs in the Championship’s game of the weekend.
In terms of possession the Hibees had the upper hand, but the Tangerines battled hard and earned their share of the spoils thanks to a second half equaliser from William Edjenguele.
There was an early let-off when Scott Fraser fouled John McGinn 20-yards out and James Keatings rattled the bar from the resulting free kick.
When United got forward they looked dangerous on the right until Lewis Toshney’s run was halted by an offside flag, though it looked a harsh decision.
Just under twelve minutes before the break United threatened again as Fraser fed Simon Murray. He cut inside before shooting and might have done better than fire straight at ‘keeper Ofir Marciano.
Little over a minute later they paid the price for that miss as Hibees took the lead through a fine angled shot from Keatings. Having had most of the pressure, you had to feel they were worth their lead.
With the end of the first half looming Nick van der Velden almost levelled after controlling a Fraser corner and seeing his deflected shot go inches wide.
Early in the second half Paul Hanlon almost made it two when he shot wide from a good position in the United box.
Ray McKinnon’s men were dealt another blow when Lewis Toshney went down as he moved for a Frank van der Struijk cross and held to be replaced by Charlie Telfer.
But in the 68th minute they were level when a Fraser corner reached Edjenguele who headed home powerfully for his first goal in tangerine.
They almost took the lead when a cross from Tope Obadeyi was just to high for fellow-sub Cammy Smith.
In the end, though, United could be happy with their point.
