Former Dundee United defender Gavin Gunning is expected to join Morton on a short-term contract today.
It means the Irishman should be set for two meetings with his old team just next week.
The Tangerines travel to Cappielow in the Betfred Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night.
And Jim Duffy’s Ton are then due to head for Tannadice for a Championship clash on Saturday week.
The 25-year-old’s second spell at Tannadice ended in very bizarre circumstances back in April when he picked the ball up and walked off during a Tannadice clash with Inverness Caley Thistle.
It emerged Gunning had suffered an injury but, in the wake of a furious reaction from United fans, he left the club the following week.
Since then he has been on the lookout for a new club and, last month, was close to signing up for Caley after a trial there.
Earlier in the summer he also had a trial in America with MLS outfit Orlando City.
There was also interest from Eastern Europe with clubs from Poland and Romania looking at him, though the player decided heading for there was not for him.
Via the trials he’s had and by training on his own, Gunning has kept himself fit and did see Development League action when he was in the Highlands.
That means he is likely to feature when Morton face Dunfermline this weekend and will be in the plans for those clashes againstUnited.
He is signing up at Cappielow until January and, if things work out, he could extend his stay.
