Dundee United gaffer Ray McKinnon has highlighted the influence new keeper Cammy Bell is having at Tannadice.
After a year of goalkeeping problems, Ray’s first priority when he took over in May was to start searching for an experienced and reliable No 1.
In the 29-year-old he believes he’s found the answer and already regards the former Rangers player as an unsung hero.
“Cammy Bell’s influence has been outstanding and he maybe has not had a lot of recognition for it,” said the manager.
“He knows when to calm the game down and when to speed it up and he’s been tremendous for us.
“He’s had some great saves and he’s been different class since he came in.
“He’s been really good for everyone at the club. He’s also a very humble person, unassuming.
“He just goes out there and works very hard and is doing a great job.”
Bell is likely to be part of an unchanged line-up that plays host to Championship leaders Raith Rovers today.
Everyone who was on duty for the win over Ayr United last week came through unscathed, leaving full-back Paul Dixon the only first-team man on the injury list.
The good news on him is he could be back from his knee surgery a couple of weeks sooner than expected.
“Dicker has done well and is coming on quickly.
“He’s stepping up his work and I’d say there is a chance he could be ready for Peterhead in the cup next week.”
