Dundee United picked up their first maximum points in the Championship with a comfortable victory over Ayr United at Tannadice.
First half goals from Simon Murray and teenager Jamie Robson had the Tangerines in easy street and a late strike by Willo Flood rounded off a good day.
With seven minutes on the clock they were almost one up as Nick van der Velden fed Scott Fraser inside the box. He shot powerfully only to be denied by a superb save from Gary Fleming.
There was even better to come from the Ayr goalie when he clawed away a Coll Donaldson header after a Cammy Smith corner.
Despite Fleming’s best efforts, United were ahead in the 13th minute.
Jamie Adams fouled Smith inside the box and although Fleming blocked van der Velden’s kick, Murray rushed in to head the loose ball over the line.
It was all United and after a string of near things they went two up eight minutes before the break.
Van der Velden cut the ball across goal from the right and teenager Jamie Robson was there to net for 12 yards with his first goal for the club.
The second half saw United in cruise control and Murray was unlucky when he raced clear and beat Fleming with a clever lob, but saw the effort ruled out for offside.
Number three did come in the 76th minute. Sub Tope Obadeyi broke down the left and his rifled cross was turned home by Flood for his first goal since returning from Aberdeen.
