Partick will ‘have a go’ warns Dundee United boss

Dundee United boss Ray McKinnon is expecting an open tie when Partick Thistle head for Tannadice in the Betfred Cup tonight.

Although he was disappointed with Saturday’s draw against Queen of the South, Ray has stressed after a run of five competitive games without defeat, confidence in the ranks remains high.

And with Partick also in fine form, he expects them to start on the front foot as well.

“They’ve been on a good run and I’m expecting them to come here and have a go,” he said.

“In some ways that could help us because they won’t be just sitting in.

“But they are a Premiership team and we know it’s going to be a test.

“If we play like we did in the second half on Saturday we will give ourselves a chance.”

Ray will make changes tonight and Scott Fraser looks certain to come in for the suspended Nick van der Velden.

And other areas of the team could be freshened up.

Meanwhile, with Henri Anier leaving yesterday after agreeing a severance package, the manager will look to strengthen his squad further.

Canadian international Marcus Haber is already on trial and another couple of striking options are being considered.

Ray is also hopeful of adding to his defence in the shape of another signing from Holland.

He’s been tracking a Dutch defender for some weeks now and could clinch the deal by the end of the week.
