Dundee United had to settle for a point as their Championship campaign kicked off against Queen of the South at Tannadice.
Ray McKinnon’s Tangerines paid the price for a slow start that saw them trail the Doonhamers at half time.
But they had the consolation of a storming second half display that should have seen them take all three points.
There was little to shout about for either set of fans in a low key first half hour.
It took 26 minutes for the first serious effort. When it came Queens midfielder Kyle Jacobs saw his 25 yard effort comfortably held by Cammy Bell.
Things were just as quiet at the other end, but when Nick van der Velden sent over a free kick, Mark Durnan should have done better than send his 12 yard header straight into the arms of Lee Robinson.
The visitors were having the best of what action there was and took a deserved lead on 40 minutes.
Lyndon Dykes saw an angled drive brilliantly stopped by Bell, but the ball broke to Grant Anderson who cut it back for ex-United man Mark Millar to fire home.
It had been a lethargic first 45 minutes from United, but they upped the tempo after the break and quickly got back on level terms in 58 minutes.
Stewart Murdoch found van der Velden in the penalty box and the Dutchman showed great skill and composure before drilling a low shot into the back of the net.
It was all United and Tope Obedayi struck the post before Cammy Smith was denied by an excellent stop from Robinson.
As the pressure continued Smith missed from close range after good work by van der Velden. After that the home team kept pressing, but could not find a winner.
