Willo Flood could be back in tangerine in time for Dundee United’s first competitive outing of the new season.
And there may be at least one other new face in the ranks when United head for Arbroath in the League Cup on Friday night.
It’s no secret the Tangerines want Flood back, he wants to come back and that Aberdeen are willing to let him go. The Dons’ involvement in Europa League qualifiers, however, has made ‘when’ an issue.
The Dubliner was involved in both legs of the first qualifing round tie against Fola Esch of Luxembourg.
And this week sees the first leg of the second-round clash with Latvians FK Ventspils.
However, the Tele understands he may be allowed to head back for what will technically be a fourth spell as a tangerine before that tie kicks-off on Thursday.
Manager Ray McKinnon is set for another look at recent trialist Stpehane Zubar when his team face Blackpool behind closed doors tomorrow.
The 29-year-old centre half trained with the squad a couple of weeks back and took part in the friendly win over Cove Rangers.
As promised, he’s travelling back north for what will be a better test of his ability.
The one down-side is Blackpool have also been showing an interest and, if he impresses against them, they could offer him a deal.
Another defender, Scotland youth Zak Jules, is now off the radar.
His trial won’t go ahead after he impressed his new boss at Reading, Holland legend Jaap Stam in training.
“With the new manager coming in at Reading there was always a chance that might happen but we’ve got Zubar coming up again and I’m happy about that,” said Ray.
He was also happy with his team’s showing in the Forfarshire Cup at Brechin on Saturday.
A one-sided contest saw United hammer home five goals at Glebe Park and create many more chances.
The gaffer was pleased about that and the performance in general.
“I thought we played well and the tempo of our play was good,” he added.
“The boys’ fitness looked good again and I was happy with the chances we made, particularly in the first half.”
Fans are reminded Friday night’s game at Arbroath is an all-ticket affair.
