Dundee United have knocked back another offer from Stoke City for teenage star Harry Souttar.
Last weekend the Potters made a £250,000 bid for the 17-year-old and that was swiftly rejected.
Now they have upped that by another six figures.
But the Tangerines are still refusing to do business.
Only yesterday manager Ray McKinnon stressed he would be unwilling to let the centre-half go unless someone made a “ridiculous” bid.
Within hours he and chairman Thompson were sticking to their word by saying a polite no thanks to Stoke’s latest advance.
That’s despite the fact taking the cash would have allowed them to push deals — like the attempt to get Lewis Toshney from Raith Rovers — to bring players in over the line.
United regard Souttar as a gem who will develop into a top star and they aim to do all they can to hang on to him for a few more years.
There is a chance, though, Stoke could come back in a third time.
