Goalie Cammy Bell knocked back an 11th-hour offer from Hearts to keep his promise to sign for Dundee United.
The Rangers man’s arrival on a two-year contract was finally confirmed on Wednesday night.
And it’s understood it followed a last-ditch bid from the Tynecastle club to persuade him to head there.
The Jambos had already held talks with him and made one final attempt to get him after he’d agreed to come to United.
But the 29-year-old stuck to his decision and is now a United player.
That delighted his new boss Ray McKinnon.
He believes Bell and last week’s arrival Stewart Murdoch will be big players for him.
“I’m delighted with the two I’ve got so far,” he said.
“Stewart will be a great player for us. He is a good pro, a good player and he will win the ball back for us.
“He’ll be one of our unsung heroes but he’ll do a vital job.
“We need players who will give everything and I know Stewart will.
“Cammy is a very good goalkeeper and brings a lot of experience to the team.
“He could have gone elsewhere, even at the last minute, but he wants to come here and play. We’re delighted to have him.”
Meanwhile, United’s chances of getting a cash windfall this summer have increased with the news Liverpool are interested in their former defender Andy Robertson.
If Hull City sell the Scotland man, the Tangerines are due a sell-on fee as part of the deal that saw him leave Tannadice two years ago.
