Dundee United have had two five figure bids for defender-cum-midfielder Lewis Toshney knocked back by Raith Rovers.
It’s emerged an initial offer for the 24-year-old was made several days ago and when that was rejected the Tangerines upped their bid.
That one has now also been turned down and earlier tonight Raith issued a statement confirming that.
The Kirkcaldy club haven’t said the Dundonian is not for sale and could simply be holding out for more cash. Whether or not United come back in a third time remains to be seen.
What is known is the Tannadice club had wanted to keep the matter confidential to avoid putting pressure on Toshney.
But there is little doubt he would jump at the chance to team up with Tangerines boss Ray McKinnon for a second time.
McKinnon signed him for Raith just over a year ago and one of his last acts before leaving Stark’s Park to take over at United last month was to secure Toshney on a new one-year contract.
