It was great to hear former Dundee United kid Ryan Gauld will be elevated to the first-team squad when he reports back for pre-season training with Sporting Lisbon.
The news doesn’t surprise me.
Gauld’s first two seasons in Portugal have not gone as well as he would have liked. There’s no disputing that.
But not only does he remain one of the best talents in years to emerge from Scottish football, he’s a determined wee character.
He can handle the setbacks that have come with changes of regime at Sporting that led him spending last term in their B squad.
And you can bet now he’s back in the main squad he will be doing all he can to turn his massive potential into an excellent career.
