Dundee United are highly unlikely to make any moves to bring David Goodwillie to Tannadice for a third spell.
The 27-year-old is leaving Aberdeen after failing to earn a new contract.
And Ross County, with whom he spent the second half of the season on loan, are showing no interest in making his move to the Highlands permanent.
With United in the market for a striker, that’s led to some speculation new boss Ray McKinnon could make an approach to the Tangerines youth product.
It’s understood, however, Ray is focusing his search for fresh talent elsewhere.
Goodwillie’s first spell at United saw him score a barrowload of goals at youth level before continuing that form when he broke into the first team.
He famously scored the opening goal in the 2010 Scottish Cup Final win over Ross County.
Performances like the one that day earned him a £2.2 million move to Blackburn Rovers, then in the Premier League down south, in 2011.
Since then, though, Goodwillie’s career has stalled.
His time at Ewood Park saw him loaned out to Crystal Palace, then United and Blackpool before finally being released.
Two years ago, he moved at Aberdeen where he teamed up with Tony Docherty, his former youth coach at United.
Over 50 appearances for the Dons saw him manage just eight goals and that led to his loan move to the Staggies back in January.
In Dingwall, he made just five starts and four appearances from the bench, netting just once in the process.
It’s that lack of scoring form over a prolonged period that’s made United reluctant to give him another chance with them.
