The pile of recommended players on new Dundee United gaffer Ray McKinnon’s desk is increasing by the hour.
But he’s again stressed he will not be rushed into making the signings he needs.
And impressive career statistics alone will not be enough for any player to be offered a deal.
Since his appointment was confirmed, Ray has had dozens of calls from agents recommending talent and some of the names have aroused his interest.
It’s still set to be next month before the first new arrivals come in.
“I’ve got a ton of names and more are coming all the time,” he said.
“For most we can get information right away and it’s impressive.
“Before I sign anyone, (assistant manager) Laurie Ellis and I will be speaking to people to do the due diligence. We’ll make sure they’re not just the right quality but the right type.
“That means a lot of hard work but we’ll do it properly.
“The close season isn’t that long but we are right at the start and we’ve a bit of time to see what’s available.”
Before leaving Raith Rovers for United, Ray had done much of his work for next season. Now it’s a case of looking at a different market.
“There is a difference between what I was dealing with before. What I’d say is the budget isn’t the same as previous years.
“That makes it even more important I take the time I can and make sure I’m not wasting money.”
Meanwhile, third-choice goalkeeper Michal Szromnik has been linked with a move to former club Arka Gdynia back in Poland.
