New manager Ray McKinnon watched from the stand as Dundee United finished their disappointing season with victory at Kilmarnock.
A second half double from Simon Murray and young Harry Souttar’s first goal for the club saw the Tangerines battle back to take the points.
They took the lead on 12 minutes as a Scott Fraser corner found Mark Durnan unmarked in the box and he headed home from eight yards.
United were well on top, with Durnan and Coll Donaldson both having efforts on goal, but in the 27th minute disaster struck. Luis Zwick only parried a Craig Slater shot and when John Rankin, in his last game for the club, attempted to pass the loose ball back to his ‘keeper, Kallum Higginbotham stole in to grab the equaliser.
Killie moved ahead eleven minutes before the break as a Higginbotham sent Tope Obadeyi away and he calmly slotted the ball past Zwick.
In the second half Killie almost stretched their lead when Frizzell sent an angled drive inches wide and then Alex Henshall struck the post with another effort.
United, though, got back on level terms in the 74th minute when Simon Murray showed good control before blasting home from 12 yards.
And the striker struck again eight minutes from the end with a fine solo effort, before 17-year-old Souttar headed number four just before the end.
