Relegated United salvaged a little pride in Inverness as they chalked up their first win in six games.
But after taking a three goal lead, they had to survive a spirited fight-back from Caley Thistle.
Simon Murray struck twice in the first half to show why he’s one of the players to be told they are part of the plans for next season.
His first came in the sixth minute as he netted with a screamer from all of 30 yards.
Murray then put his team two up on the stroke of half time after a John Rankin shot was blocked and he forced the ball over the line from close range.
Ten minutes after the break he was again involved as United went three up. A neat pass released Billy Mckay and his low cross was rifled home by Edward Ofere.
Just a minute later Jordan Roberts pulled one back for the home team with a strike from distance.
With 21 minutes remaining, Liam Polworth got another to put ICT right back in the game.
United then had Callum Morris red carded for picking up two bookings in three minutes, but held out for victory.
